DrunkDucks and Dollars!

I haven't posted for a while, and for that I apologize. However, I do have a rather good reason for my delinquency in posting, and my absence from the Argus Leader.

It comes down to money.

But then, doesn't it always?

Long story short, I picked up a few cartooning jobs these last two weeks that took priority. One that I am particularly proud of is a project for one of the best websites out there today; www.DrunkDuck.com . Check it out for some of the best comics on the internet, and when my project is finished expect to see it here!

In the meantime, enjoy this editorial piece I made for www.nightgig.com regarding the recent buyout of DrunkDuck by Platinum Studios. I have to say, the buyout was a total surprise, and one of the best ideas I've seen yet. Not only does DrunkDuck get some much-needed corporate backing, but Platinum Studios gets a forum to test their projects and a potential breeding ground for new ideas! Truly a win-win situation for all involved. Now, if only more mergers made this much sense...

It may be gone...

Amendment E is dead, voted out of existence by a margin of 90 to 10.
Long gone.
Stick a fork in it.
Dead and buried.

...or is it?

Apparently the organizer of Amendment E Bill Stegmeier has said he would definitely try again in the future. And that's not necessarily a BAD thing...if it would be handled right.

The premise was not at fault, judicial accountability is arguably a good thing. However, giving people the right to come down on jurors and other officials was unnecessary...and for the most part rather silly. People stuck in jury duty usually don't want to be there in the first place! It's a tiresome imposition, so giving the accused the ability to delve into their personal lives because they didn't like the verdict given boils down to nothing more than a larger imposition. It's like pouring salt in a wound. Be more specific Bill! And leave people who don't even want to be there alone!

Amendment E? No thanks, I just ate.

This is a cartoon I recently made for the Argus Leader. It made the front page of the Voices section! Still rather happy about that...and the subject matter (for those NOT in South Dakota) has to do with the alleged link between Bill Stegmeier, the organizer of Amendment E and fringe presidential candidate Gene Chapman, proponent of the Anti-Communist Act/Amendment.

Both Amendments seemed like good ideas...that is, until one took a closer look. I won't bore you with the details, even though many of said details had me shaking my head and muttering "WTF...?" Google 'em if you're interested, they are good for a chuckle. Honestly, I think both Amendments started out as good intentions, then somewhere along the way took a serious turn into Kookooville. Luckily, Amendment E was stopped cold.

Politically, South Dakota has been a busy state...one could say almost electrically charged. Elections ended on the 7th, but the days leading up to that were a firestorm of raw, naked political zeal. As people schilled for their candidates on the street corners sporting huge signs that proclaimed their candidate's worthiness, cars and vans cruised the main streets plastered with hand-written election slogans, wisely dodging the heated glares of various demonstrators for and against Referred Law 6 who hurled epithets at one another from across the city streets...if I didn't know better I would have thought I was back in college. People CARED.

It was nice to see people give a damn about something again.

And so it begins...

Hello everyone! Just a quick post today, as I start upon this bold venture...this...my BLOG OF DESTINY!

Okay, maybe not.

However, this is going to be something new for me. I've been thinking about making a blog for a long time, since it was highly recommended by another graphics professional who utilized it as a form of artistic self-discipline. I plan on posting much of my cartoon artwork on this page, along with many of my opinions.
